During the reality check, students would be given a folder that listed their career, yearly salary, monthly gross salary, marital status, FICA, Medicare, Federal IT, State IT, and monthly net income. After the students received their folders, they went from booth to booth purchasing things like insurance, health insurance, vehicles, furniture, groceries, entertainment, housing, etc. The students had to keep up with a check register in order to see details of their spending and where their money was spent. At the end of the Reality Check, students calculated to see how much money they had left at the end of the month. It was an extremely enlightening experience for the students to see a glimpse into what it will be like in “the real world” when they choose their career path, etc. Below are some pictures of the event.
