Reed Elementary 2021-2022 Enrollment underway

Reed Elementary School in Holdenville is now taking enrollment for Pre-K and new students Kindergarten through third grade for the 2021-2022 school year. Children must be four years of age on or before September 1, 2021 to enroll in Pre-K and you must bring shot records, birth certificates, social security cards, proof of residency and tribal card (if applicable). Reed Elementary is located at 615 S. Broadway and you may call 405-379-6618 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Ardell Evella Drake Withers was born in Clearview, Oklahoma July 22, 1916 to Sam and Mendie Edwards Drake. Ardell was the third of ten siblings: Lillian, Luvenia, Irene, Selma, Etta, Alma, Everett, W. G., and Willie B. Being raised in the home as the elder child, Ardell developed strong leadership qualities early in life. Upon the death of her mother and due to her deep devotion to her family, she assumed the role of matriarch.

Clearview News: Happy 84 birthday on February 28 to Kurrilue Johnson in Maryland, an adamant reader of the Hughes County Tribune. Sisters Marian and Jean Marie and her husband Frank spent time with their mother Marguerite and brothers Earl and Daryl French in Clearview last week. Rural Water District #3 continues to ask customers to boil their water before consumption or cooking. The citizens are happy to be over the cold weather and are anxious to get out prepare for spring. Please continue your prayers for those on the sick list Marguerite French, L. C. Carson, Marjorie Plunkett, Kevin Sinnett, Kurrilue Johnson, Billy Walker, Cornell Lucas, and Jean Chatman.

E. M. “Nat” Watson Jr. Athletic Scholarship

The Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame, Inc. is offering a scholarship generously donated by Mr. and Mrs. William “Bill” Ford of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Mr. Ford played football under coach Watson at Shawnee High School. Coach Watson had major impact on the life and success of Mr. Ford and in return this scholarship has been established to continue the legacy of making a difference in the lives of young athletes as Coach Watson did for so many. This scholarship is open to male and female athletes who attend and graduate from an Oklahoma Public school that will attend college fulltime at an Oklahoma accredited institution. Preference will be given to African American students. The amount to be awarded will be contingent upon monies available each year and may vary. The selection process will be concluded by April 1 st of each year and the recipients will be notified in writing. Recipients will be asked to attend the Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame banquet in September.
