Honoring our Chosen Woman of the Week

Mrs. Violet Alford Patterson was born near Clearview, Oklahoma in 1927 to Emily and Wesley Alford. She attended Little Hill School before moving to Weleetka, Oklahoma where she attended through eighth grade at Weleetka Dunbar. Dunbar did not have a school for Blacks, so she had to travel to Clearview Douglas High to continue her high school education and graduated in 1946.

Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame

The Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame received an Oklahoma Heritage Preservation grant last year to install a kiosk con taining the history and inductees of the Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame at both the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City and the Hall of Fame Center in Clearview. The kiosk finally arrived and is now installed at both places. It is a standalone, portable kiosk presently containing nine years of inductees. The kiosk will be updated each year.
