Oklahoma Home and Community Education NORTHEAST DISTRICT MEETING

The Okfuskee County OHCE Clearview Brown Suggas Club (left to right) Rita Cooksey, Henrietta Hicks, Shirley Nero, and Elaine Evans along with five members of the Okemah Club, Carla Schooling, Brandi Bumgardner and daughter Sarai, Ginny Bumgardner, Sherry Largent, and Educator Jan Maples attended the Northeast District meeting. McIntosh, Muskogee, and Wagoner Counties hosted the all-day event. The counties decorated the Armed Forces Center in their theme of “Red, White, and Blue and OHCE Too!” with tables of flags, sand, stars, candles, ribbons, and more. The Broken Arrow High School ROTC opened the meeting with the presentation of Colors and Flag Folding. The 300-plus OHCE members and guest sang “You’re A Grand Old Flag” and “America the Beautiful.” Retired Brigadier General Tom Mancino served as guest speaker. He gave the history of the military museum established at the Armed Forces Center in 2013.

It’s A Drive-By Birthday Celebration 96th Birthday ~ Otis Davis

Otis Davis will celebrate his 96 birthday on April 2, 2020, but the celebration will begin in Clearview on April 1 at 5:00 p.m. in front of Wanda Jean’s Uptown restaurant as a drive-by, come and go. You are invited to stop in for a slice of cake and say hello if you choose to do so. Mr. Davis is the town’s oldest living citizen, and the sponsors would appreciate a large turnout. The restaurant will be open if you would like to stay for dinner. So, bring your horns, whistles, balloons, etc. and let him know he is appreciated.

Folding of the United States Flag

If you have ever attended a military funeral, perhaps you noticed that the honor guards pay meticulous attention to folding the U.S. flag that once draped the casket. Guards make crisp, precise folds a total of thirteen times to complete the ceremony. Much like every other aspect of our nation’s greatest symbol, each of the thirteen folds holds a special significance.

Clearview News: Happy 65 birthday to Joyce Barrett of Clearview on March 30th. Correction on Marian French Ware age on her birthday. She is not 75 years old but 81 years old. We will blame her brother-in-law Felix Linden for the mistake. L. C. and Irene Carson were in Clearview visiting last week. They are working on her mother’s house. It would be nice for them to move back to Clearview one day. Please continue your prayers for those on our sick list: Billy Walker, L.C. Carson, Sharon Patton, Dorothy Loggins, Bobby Joe Forshee, Marjorie Plunkett, Kurrilue Johnson, and Johnny West.
