Around Town

Staff Writer I know, because I was a junior at East Central State College and working part-time as a window trimmer for Montgomery Ward in Ada and refereeing high school basketball games in small schools surrounding areas. I lived in a one-room apartment four blocks from EC, which meant I walked nine blocks to work in beautiful downtown Ada if I couldn’t hitch a ride. Then on Sundays and Wednesdays, I walked 14 blocks to church, again if I couldn’t look or sound pitiful and get a ride. But I could always stop at Folgers and get a hamburger for a quarter. IF YOU SEE

IF YOU SEE HOLDENVILLE MAYOR JOHNNY MASSAD, or anyone who works for the Holdenville street and water departments, be sure and give them a big, “thank you” for all of their extra efforts in stopping a major water leak on Kelkar Street. The mayor was right alongside his employees, shin deep in gushing water from 9:15 in the morning until 10:00 at night trying to stop this leak. After three clamps and several laborious man hours, the city was still unsuccessful in stopping a leak caused by damage to this extent. Outside contractors are being contacted to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience in dealing with low water pressures and the current boil order while the city moves forward with the repairs. As of press time (6:00pm Wednesday) water had been shut off to much of the Holdenville area. They were hoping to have it back on sometime Wednesday evening. When we have additional information it will be posted on our website. hughescountytribune.com.
