100th Year of Golden Family Descendants Meet

For three days, Golden family met in Clearview for the Goon Golden fish fry on Friday evening at the Main Street Community Center and at the Dolly Golden Pavilion for food and games. On Saturday, groups participated in a golf tournament at the golf course in Okemah, a basketball tournament at Thlopthlocco Tribal Town gym, and more games of dominoes and spades, and water games, back at the old school grounds in Clearview. Some camped out for two nights on the grounds and spent the evenings listening to music and playing more games while enjoying ice cream, cupcakes, and hotdogs. The next day, Sunday, many attending Sunday morning worship services at the Golden pavilion, and then moved into the old gym for the Sunday afternoon meal for more activities. The Susie Johnson branch won the award for having the most members in attendance of thirty-eight members (Dolly and Ashford had ten children, Susie was number three). Opal Inez, granddaughter of Dolly and daughter of Pinkie, the oldest member (90 years) won the award for the oldest in attendance and Jesse Horn won the award for the traveling the longest distance (Long Beach, California). Shirley Nero presented a history of the family and a memorial for those who had passed away since the last reunion (seven members). There were an estimated 250 members present during the entire three-day event.
