On Martin Luther King Jr. Day held in Clearview, persons attending the event were asked to bring a donation of items for a person living in an elderly care center. Several attendees dropped off items such as deodorants, face soaps, hand soaps, games, hair products, blankets, house shoes, wash clothes, and money to purchase items. Following the MLK program, the Suggas continued to collect and shop for more items. Last week, the Brown Suggas club delivered the items to elder care centers in Weleetka and Okemah. The residents were very pleased to receive the donations and the club members involved were very excited about giving to those in need. They said this will not be the last opportunity to make donations to someone in need of such donations. Those helping with delivery were Helen Bush, Elayne Evans, Edith Jimboy, and Shirley Nero.

State Question 820 was defeated by a vote of 349,121 no votes to 216,883 yes votes. (61.68% to 38.32%). The vote was split even more drastically in Hughes County. Out of the 1,955 ballots cast in the county, only 495 (25.32%) voted in favor of the question with 1,460 (74.68%) voting no All 77 counties rejected the state question. Total voter turnout was 25.35% of those eligible to vote in this election.
