Service today for Robert Lee “Popeye” Jones
Robert Lee “Popeye” Jones passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 78.
Robert was born September 9, 1940 in Calvin, Oklahoma to Earl W Jones and Lucille LaFave Jones. Robert attended Calvin public schools. Robert married Linda Stringfellow on April 22, 1964 in Dallas, Texas. He was a self-employed mechanic. Robert was a Jack-of-All-Trades, who enjoyed working, camping, and going to the lake. Spending time with his family was most important and Popeye would always say “see you tomorrow!” He loved Calvin and spent his life working to better the town.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Casey Jones and Oliver Jones, and sisters Jean Keefer, Jearldine Cummings and Lucille Arnold.
He is survived by his wife Linda Jones of Calvin; children Robert E Jones and wife Diana of Calvin, Rex Jones and wife Gena of Ada, Steven Jones and wife Rhonda of Okemah, Shean Jones and wife Robyn of Calvin, Misty Taylor and husband Shane of Calvin, and David Jones and wife Katy of Calvin; seventeen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother Jon Jones of Calvin; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 25th , at the Calvin Auditorium with Pastor Jimmy Freeman officiating, and Pastor William Blaylock and Pastor Luke Kuhlman assisting.
Pallbearers are Robert E. Jones, Shane Taylor, Rex Jones, Steven Jones, Shean Jones and David Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Rowdy Jones, Jake Jones, Chris Jones, Jon Jones, Gary McDonald, Casey Cummings, Jim Keefer and Jesse Furgerson.
Interment will follow at Calvin Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Holdenville, Oklahoma.
