Service today for Johnnie “Dale” Turner

Johnnie “Dale” Turner passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Ada at the age of 77.

Dale was born April 16, 1941 in Ragtown, Oklahoma to Burley Turner and Mae Madden Turner. Dale graduated from Moss Public Schools. He attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a Masters degree. He married Kathryn Meadors February 17, 1962 at the Prairie View Baptist Church in Hughes County.

Dale was in the teaching profession for 30 years and taught in Holdenville schools for 21 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Holdenville. Dale served as District 24 State Representative from 1996-2008, and was a Lions Club member, former National President of the National Vocational Ag Teachers Association, President of Holden-ville Chamber of Commerce, and President of Hughes County Retired Teachers.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Turner of the home; daughter Tammy Ann Griffin and her husband Johnny of Holdenville; grandchildren Boone Griffi n, and Ashlyn and her husband Calupe Byerly of Holdenville; great-grandchildren Jaylee Griffi n of Norman, and Cainen and Stetson Byerly of Holdenville; sisters Jean Grimm of Yukon, and Linda Harmon and her husband Vernon of Broken Arrow; nieces and other relatives; friends and special friends Devin and Beverly Chancey and Ollie Blakley.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday February 21st , at the First Baptist Church in Holdenville with Pastor Jason Yarbrough officiating. Interment will follow at Holdenville Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Johnny Griffin, Steven Mathis, Rudy Camp, Art Paylor, Gerald Parsons and Boone Griffin. Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Cundiff, Steve Killmer, Randy Fields, Gerald Roberts, Kent Boggs, Dale Jenkins, Tommy Johnson and Devin Chancey.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Holdenville, Oklahoma.
