Service held for Velma Louise Smith

Velma Louise Smith passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at Walnut Grove Living Center in McAlester, Oklahoma at the age of 94.

Louise was born February 2, 1926 in Keota, Oklahoma to Francis A. Campbell and Martha Reeves Campbell. She graduated from Clayton High School. She married Virgil Smith on May 19, 1943 for they had 52 years together until he passed away March 31, 1995. Louise was a farmer’s wife and they grew cotton and peanuts.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgil; siblings Kirby Campbell, Calvin Campbell, and Rosella Creason; son-in-law Truman; and daughters Susan and Judy.

She is survived by her siblings Robert Campbell of Bristow, Arvil Campbell of Bristow, and Ruth Conley of Kellyville; daughter Gina Simmons and husband James of Calvin; granddaughter Ginger Holliman and husband Bob of Oklahoma City; son-in-law James Mayo of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandson Brian Mayo of Grand Prairie, Texas; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was 11:00 am Wednesday May 27 th , at Calvin Cemetery in Calvin with Pastor Kurtis Stoll officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the church. COVID-19 regulations will be observed.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville, Oklahoma.
