Robert Douglas ‘Bob’ Guffey passed away at his home in Calvin, Oklahoma on Friday, May 17, 2019, at the age of 76 years.

Bob was the son of George Dennis Guffey and Edith Naomi (Detrick) Guffey, born on November 5, 1942, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where he was brought up and attended schools. Following high school, he lived in Shawnee for a short time before moving to Wichita, Kansas, serving for many years as a deputy for the Wichita Sheriff’s Department.

He met Mary Jean Floyd in 1976, and they were married on May 8, 1976. They lived in Wewoka and Bob served briefly as a police officer before they moved to Gerty in 1981, where he was a reserve police officer for the Holdenville Police Department and worked for a few years at the OTASCO store. He owned and operated B&J Texaco on Holdenville’s Main Street for 14 years, retiring in 1997 due to failing health.

Bob loved telling jokes and was well known for his great sense of humor. In his younger years, hunting and fishing were some of his favorite things; in later years, he enjoyed sitting and watching the animal life on his beloved farm in Gerty. More than anything, he loved his family and his farm.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Edith Guffey; his son, Robert and D. Guffey Jr.; his grandson, John Bradley; and all his siblings, five brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Jean, of the home; his son, Dennis Guffey (Vesta) of Checotah, and his daughter, Tesha Neal (Albert) of Tulsa; nine grandchildren, Denny Guffey, Heather Guffey, Shelby Guffey, Randall Phillips, Elaine Dean, Stephanie Guffey, Jeremy Neal, and Joseph Compton; nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 23rd , 11:00 a.m. at the Calvin Cemetery Chapel, and Bob was laid to rest at Calvin Cemetery, with Rev. Tommy Chaffin officiating. Pallbearers were Denny Boren, Steve Giddens, Michael Dean, Adam Logan, Jacob Smith, and Geoff Kauley, with Herman Medlock serving as honorary pallbearer.

Services were under direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville. www.fisherfh.net
