Remembering Riley West

Riley Dawn West, 17, of Indianola, passed away on October 9, 2025, in Tulsa, surrounded by her loving family.
Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Stuart School Gymnasium, officiated by Rev. Bart Patterson and Misty Reeves. Burial will follow at Choate Prairie Cemetery, Indianola.
Pallbearers will be Jeff West, Turner West, Rick Compton, Colter Steele, Easton Myskey, and Chance Chapman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Tracy Blasengame and Riley’s Stuart High School Class of 2026 classmates.
Riley was born on December 10, 2007, in Talihina, Oklahoma, to Jeffrey Don and Ashley Jo (Compton) West. She began school in Savanna, later attending Indianola from second through sixth grade, and was currently a senior at Stuart High School, where she would have graduated with the Class of 2026. Riley was also taking concurrent college courses through Carl Albert State College.
As a dedicated student at Stuart High School, academics were Riley’s true passion. Riley was on track to graduate from Stuart High School as a class valedictorian. Riley was recently named Pittsburg County Student of the Month. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Oklahoma Indian Student Honor Society, participated in scholastic meets, and served as captain of the Academic Team. Riley was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes program. Riley managed the high school boys’ basketball team and managed the concession stand for Mr. Chapman during most home baseball and softball games.
Riley was a faithful and devoted member of Arpelar Nazarene Church, where she was baptized on January 12, 2025, and was a dedicated and active member of the youth group. Riley made it a daily habit to post Bible verses to bring everyone she knew closer to God. In her free time, she loved reading, drawing, listening to classic rock, country, and Christian music. She enjoyed studying classic cars and hot rods, learning about engines, and shopping, especially for shoes.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Leon and Norma Compton, and Uncle Nathan Steele.
She is survived by her parents, Jeff and Ashley West, and her brother, Turner West, all of Indianola; maternal grandparents, Rick and Cathy Compton of Scipio; paternal grandparents Mike and Teresa McKinney of Nowata; aunt, Hillary Tripp; cousins, Joey Steele and Colter Steele of Tannehill; Aunt, Krystle Countz of Stuart; cousins Payton Bennett, Jaxson and Braxton Countz; great-grandparents, J.C. and Lawanda Williams of McAlester; great-grandparents Rodger and Leonda Sheilds of Stuart; great-aunt, Karen Wingo, and her husband, Jimmy; great aunt. Angie Workman and her husband Ricky, great-aunt, Natalie Teague and her husband Danny, great-uncle David Williams and his wife Pam; greataunt Janet Williams; cousins: Nina Sullins and her husband Danny; Haylee, Hadley, and Hayden Sullins, Dustin Workman and his wife Meridith; Crystal Stewart and her husband Mike; Nolan and Bailey Stewart; Stephanie Tipton and her husband Joe, Sidney Hull and her husband Caden, Shelby Howell, cousins Justin Williams and his wife Starla; their children Trevor and Kynzlee; cousins, Rachael Sellmeyer and her husband Tyler and their children Jackson and Ella; along with numerous extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
