Joyce Wylene Dempsey died on May 5, 2022. She was born August 29, 1932 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to B.R. and Thelma (Bennett) Gordon. She married Jack Dempsey on December 21, 1957 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They had 3 children: Steve, Rhonda, and Mark. Joyce worked for many years at Sears in the fabric department and in their collection department and later in life at Southern Nazarene University.

Joyce enjoyed painting, sewing, gardening, bird watching, music, singing and watching golf. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Joyce graduated from Holdenville High School in 1950, then attended college at Bethany Peniel College now known as Southern Nazarene University. She was a member of Calvary Nazarene Church and a member of The Auxiliary of Gideon’s International since 1982.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; son, Steve; daughter-in-law, Audrey; granddaughter, Terra; brother, B.R.; sister, Tammy; and some very special in-laws.

She is survived by daughter, Rhonda and son-in-law, Garry; son, Mark; granddaughter, Detta; grandsons, Bryan (Kyle), Ozzie Simmons, Sydney Shaw, Jonathan Simmons, and Tim Holland; sisters, Donna Klick, Barbara Cummins, Peggy Wilmeth and Karen Brock; brothers, Willard Gordon (Faye), Ronnie Gordon, John Gordon (Rilda) and Harold Gordon (Jennie); sisters-in-law, Lavelle Butler, and Myrtle Dempsey; and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all including her grand puppies Nelly and Ernie.

The family would like to thank her neighbor of 60 years, Bert Goble, for all his help over the last several years.

Services were held Wednesday, May 11, 2:00pm at Calvary Nazarene Church, 3100 N. Rockwell, Bethany, Oklahoma with interment in Spring Creek Cemetery. In lieu of fl owers, donations can be made to Gideon’s International. To share a memory or condolence, visit www.mercer-adams.com
