Joyce Ann Lee
JoyceAnn Lee passed away at her home in Stonewall, Oklahoma on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the age of 88 years.
Joyce is the daughter of Howard&Walsie(Richardson) Carmichael, born on August 10, 1935, near Holdenville, Oklahoma. Her family moved to California when she was a young child and then returned to Oklahoma, where Joyce graduated Holdenville High School with the Class of 1953. Shortly after graduation, she was married to Larry Lee on November 25, 1954. They went on their honeymoon to Larry's first military assignment in White Sands, New Mexico. After his four-year commitment was complete and his career with Safeway, they returned to Holdenville in 1979. Joyce worked for several years in Holdenville at the Hughes County Courthouse and as bookkeeper for Aquafarms.
Upon Larry’s passing Joyce moved to Norman. Her interests were many and varied, and she liked to stay busy. She very much enjoyed farm life, loved her chickens, and always grew and maintained a very big garden.
She loved fishing, wildlife and birdwatching. She and Larry loved traveling and drove their Fifth Wheel or camper to all the national parks. At home, they spent a lot of time boating on Holdenville Lake.
They enjoyed OU sports, and they were devoted fans of Moss School Girls Basketball and followed the team all over the state. They were always active in their children and grandchildren’s activities. After Larry passed away, Joyce moved to Norman, OK. She traveled with their daughter, Debbie, and especially enjoyed their cruise to South America.
She loved Oklahoma history and enjoyed teaching it to children and anyone else who would listen.
She volunteered as a tour guide at the State Capitol. Joyce was of the Baptist faith but enjoyed attending various other churches.
She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother, hardheaded and stubborn, and deeply loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard & Walsie Carmichael; her husband of 49 years, Larry Lee, in 2004; her son, Don Lee, and daughter, Debbie Lee; two brothers, Gary Carmichael and Sammy Carmichael.
Out of her two siblings and Larry’s nine, Joyce was the last surviving member in her family of their generation.
She is survived by three grandchildren: Cynthia Lee Cravens (Matt) of Choctaw, Billy Lee (Kesha) of Granbury TX, and Chris Lee (Shawna) of Stonewall; ten great grandchildren and one greatgreat grandchild on the way; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held at Holdenville Cemetery Chapel and Joyce was laid to rest on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2:00pm, with Rev.
Dane Robinson officiating.
Pallbearers were Chris Lee, Billy Lee, Matt Cravens, Brayden Miller, Randy Roller, and Jackson Lee.
