I lived in a one-room apartment four blocks from EC, which meant I walked nine blocks to work in beautiful downtown Ada if I couldn’t hitch a ride. Then on Sundays and Wednesdays, I walked 14 blocks to church, again if I couldn’t look or sound pitiful and get a ride. But I could always stop at Folgers and get a hamburger for a quarter. These are some things that could have been said about the state of the state of Oklahoma and many surrounding states during this time: Some things couldn’t be repeated in a family newspaper.
